it's the end of an era. (it really is)
and not just the 'express your opinion for free' era.
to a large extent, it's the end of the "express your opinions without fear of reprisals" era.

i don't trust government, any government.
maybe i've read too many of ed slavin's blog posts, but i can't shake the feeling that our local government (city and county) is comprised of just the sort of people who would love nothing more than to...exact a little bit of retribution on the author of a strongly worded letter.

obviously not hit squads or drone attacks. they'll leave that to the federales.
but i'll leave it for your imagination to expand on, what to me is obvious...with the gentle reminder that the city commission did redraw the boundaries of our fair metropolis around everyone's favorite activist, to include him out.

The times they are a changin' - and I'm changing too, trying to do good and avoid evil - the "bottom line" of human life.

we anonymice don't really think about him all that much...but when we do, we have to admit that since he's lost weight, he wears our scorn a lot better then he used to.

every circus needs a clown.

Be alert, Comment-ers:  Very few days left to vent your spleens.

i've got one last thing to say over there and i'll save it for a couple of days before the pay wall cements the record's doom. i wish them well but i don't think this is gonna work.

i can't help but think that the editor of historic city news has been spending the past couple of weeks washing his hands in the air and braying with demonic laughter...the record is delivering up a brand new group of readers to his site, all wrapped with a bow.

My first post on this board.  A reject banished from that other place shall not be named.   Pay walls and forcing people to publish personal info.

Because they have commentators that were uncontrollable, derogatory and threatening.

An incredible show of iron clad reasoning.......

it wasn't their smartest move, that's for sure.
i am tempted to order up the paper under the name of bif richards and use a visa gift card from target to pay for it.

i'm sure that there are ways around giving up your real identity.

but...why bother?
the paper isn't that good.
not $6.99 a month good.

Sorry, I don't understand that.  Please elaborate.

Well in theory they wanted to use real names to discourage shall we say disgruntled or bat guano crazy people from posting disturbing comments on their site.

So their solution is make the sane people post their real names so the bat guano crazy readers or a commentators wingnut boss will know who they are.  It really makes perfect sense.

It's like in a bar.  You have a boisterous out of control drunk threatening your patrons.  Logically you would ask all the patrons to give the belligerent drunk their name, phonenumber and address then ask them to go out into the parking lot with him alone.

Great idea, wonder if I can get a prepaid VISA under Harry Peratestes.   Yeah $6.99 is a little steep  I could see $3.99 for digital only.     [/i]
