you lil scamp...me too.
it was time to simplify my life and the fewer books i had in my collection, the fewer i'd have to trip over.

then i lent it to a co-worker who wanted to read john irving's latest (which i loved, btw)...took her 6 weeks (she loved it too, read it twice)...she had possession of my nook longer than i have...

but i got it back today and for that i am thankful...(and back on topic)

Happy Thanksgiving to all - most of you fittingly living near the site of the first Thanksgiving feast of European settlers in what is now the USA, St. Augustine Florida.

Now I'm out to shovel a path through the new snow to the road, so my guests don't get their tootsies wet.

I'm damn thankful for my life in the USA, even if it did snow.

Carole is bee-YOO-tee-ful!!!  That last pose... not suitable for a 13-week-old kittie...   Razz

Gonna hit 83 here today, Bieramar!

Yes, we're thankful, too, for this beloved country.

Got up early, prepared the bird, stuffed it loaded the grill and went to a friends house were I smoked 2 birds one a charcoal and alder wood and the other on a gas grill with more alder wood.

Ate well had a few drinks and laughed a lot.  Played a game and lost laughed some more and now for a night cap and bed.

I have so much to be thankful for I would even begin to list the reasons.  Suffice it to say I am thankful for the blessing of a wife, two kids,  4 dogs, a roof over my head and ............................

Happy Thanksgiving.

Bah, HUMBUG!

Just got news that the company my daughter and son in law work for is about to go belly up.
puc reducks

Great portrait of the cat!!!

Bad news about your daughter and her hubby.  Why do they always break bad news at holiday time?

Hoping all will be well and that new, BETTER jobs will come soon!!!
coebul

only one problem with cats..............  They are cats.
puc reducks

Coebul,
I know, the poor darling creatures!  Crying or Very sad

There was a NOVA program on not too long ago about how/why humans became sedentary agriculturalists so early in human civilization, rather than staying hunters and gatherers and thus not forming societies and cities.

The reason:  our close association with and similarities to *drum roll* DOGS!  Both our species hunt in packs and share the bounty of the hunt.  We had that in common, which eventually led less-fearful wolves to our firesides.  It wasn't long before wolf packs and humans hunted together, the wolves getting part of the meat/whatever--but enough to keep Canidae on our side so that eventually (really a long process) humans were able to raise enough food to stay in one place. And domesticate what would become Canis familiaris.

That's the thumbnail verson.  Punctuated, on NOVA, by scientific commentary and studies--and some engaging visuals.

Really fascinating stuff.

Now, all that said:  Cats are solitary hunters for the most part (lionesses excepted), so they never really had the tolerance for aiding humans.  Lions are all out for their pride/cat pack.

If you're interested, you might be able to watch the show online.  Dogs, history... just doesn't get much better 'n that!  Smile
coebul

But, But, But they are cats!!!!!

We have 2 one is an obnoxious clawer/biter that is half wild half nuts.  The other is terrified of it's own shadow.  I. E. worthless.
puc reducks

And you love them, right?

Our little Jack Russell Mix is a timid type, hypsersensitive, etc., etc.  So it is extra special when he wants to cuddle--and lets out a long sigh to let us know he is comfy and content.

Our other is a Welsh Corgi (Cardigan) Mix.  He's the Visigoth. Rampaging nut-case, and I say that with love!  He's very happy, well adjusted, and affectionate.

Both are rescues.

Can't imagine a household without cats or dogs!  Smile

Nope.  My daughter brought one home as a rescue cat and it never left.  The skittish one?  I traded my wife the cat for a .44 mag.  Couldn't care less about either.  I am not a Cat person.

I have 4 dogs (thought it was going to be 3 the other day).   2 standard poodles and 2 little ones.   One is a retired show dog that was going to get the needle when they x-rayed her hips.  The breeder called us and we took her.  The other standard is my bud.  We go everywhere together.  85 pounds of do not f--k with when guarding my SUV.  The other 2 are both rescues and they are not my favorites.

But no matter what I am a dog person.  Tired the cats thing while in college and for a few years after.  Not for me.

I wouldn't hurt them but I would seek them out...
puc reducks

Standard Poodles--love 'em!  Our veterinarian here had SPs for several years.  You are so right about intelligence and guarding.  They ran the reception area!  (Happy they liked/approved of us!)  After they passed on, our vet had other breeds, but he's now back to Standard Poodles. I am very fond of the breed.

Yes, I tried the cat thing, too.  They're just too aloof and independent (in a cat-like way).  Usually have had Terrier Mixes (all rescues) and they are independent, too, but in a different way.

Your wife got a cat and you got a gun??!  Who won???   Laughing
coebul

No the deal was she got a cat I got the gun.

Actually she called me and I said no.  We talked and I still said no..  She called me back and said "ok what's it going to cost me"?  So I told her.

I won.
puc reducks

Oh, you guys...

It's the CAT who won!!!   Razz

Oh, you're soooo logical for a younger sibling!!!   Razz

(Wife wins, too, y'know!)

~~~~~
Coebul, OK I give up!!!   Laughing
coebul
LOL.  Funny.
Remember Y2K?  We bought a semi automatic SKS and 1,000 rounds of ammo, 50 pound of rice, pinto beans and 100 pounds of salt.
Obviously I didn't take the event very seriously.  The wife asked me about the salt and I told her if I had to Shoot the horse we would need to cure the meat.
Slept in the living room for a week and she didn't talk to me for 2 weeks.
I threatened to paint a bulls eye on her (the horse) chest.
Yep... Yep... Yep...  I sure no how to twist her undies into a bunch.....
Phred
Funny post Coebul ... probably true knowing you, but funny.
coebul
Yeah it's true.  She does put up with me..
puc reducks
What's with that banner ad at the bottom of your msg, Coebul?
I have one, too, on my post in National News.
Does it signify the end of the page???
puc reducks
OH!!!  It's cyber-tag.  And I'm (the most recent poster) "IT"!
I hate that.
coebul
Heck I thought you were just advertising your own forum.
puc reducks
Nope, the kid got no forum but this one.
Noticed Bieramar had same at end of his msg, too.
Is it gone now???
