The City and County have not been very forthright in doing the best for it's tax payer's nor have the developers done all they've promised either.

I'm heartfelt in saying this decision to purchase this store is not in the best interest of Lincolnville OR the taxpayers and just the fact that it was so poorly announced proves it. Even their own said it.

Unless all of the comments make a difference to them (HUH) I doubt the local gov. will adhere to what is best.

And I'm still wondering where a defamation of character will appear in the near future.

Yes our honeymoon is over. The decision to purchase the property was a good one! it may not fit in with your plans and desires in life, but if you look at the overall impact, this was a very wise move from the city. And as far as a defamation of character, you obliviously have no clue.

pdiddy wrote:
I have more than 1 clue and you're obviously not privy to it but hey! No harm no foul! (And as far as your comment on it being MY plans for that building or Lincolnville? That's really funny.. I only plan something with what I own!)

M.O. called me one night because SHE had posted a link which I commented on and SHE wanted me to edit my comment; it was about John Tanner's daughters whereabouts. It was much later than I usually accept calls but because it was HER and a supposed FRIEND, I picked the phone up. And now I'll say I Was drinking LOL, and I'm still wondering how someone doesn't read All the links they post for their side of the story.

at this point a poster tries to drag the former fast friends/now famous feuders, back to the topic at hand, alas...to no avail.

a poster wrote:
If the extended family wanted this property, they could have already stepped up and secured it. I may be wrong, but behind two payments does not put the property in foreclosure. I'm glad all this nonsense has stopped, but sorry something just doesnt sound right here. I do understand the property can be seized and a mortgage is still due but....wouldnt it go to auction just as other seized property does? I really doubt the city would be outbid by this family. Maybe I am missing something but like I said something just doesnt sound right. Paying this amount when the price is surely to be less at auction makes no sense.

pdiddy, like a dog working a bone however, will have none of it and responds venomously to the poster formerly known as mortagusmortavoicepetuniapkitttycakeandicecream and a legion of online personas too numerous (and to be perfectly honest too vile and boring) to recount here wrote:

comments presented

Ah, the good ole days when Jesse Morton would have been slicin' and dicin'.

Although I'm a Buddhist who likes to party - and thus likes the baby Jesus events - it does seem that the season precipitates and accelerates hostility, anxiety, depression, misery, road rage, and internet diatribes and bickering.

What happened to those angels singing "Peace on earth...." to the shepherds? Are sheep in disrepute these days?  Are they the sheep to which tsiya keeps referring?

What is the reason for the season anyway?

And how do those three wise astrologers dressed in Muslim garb go over in post-911 creche scenes?

bieramar wrote:

probably pretty well if you can find a creche scene.

which begs the question...if liberals/progressives are really fighting a "war on christmas"...isn't the multi cultural message of the manger scene enough to trump the implied religious message?
puc reducks

1-  I read "John Travolta" instead of John Trasher, so from that point on things were muddled.  Confused

2-  Jesse Morton sliced and diced only AFTER he was given an ultimatum. Right, Dunrobin?   Twisted Evil

3-  Baby Jesus parties?  Love it!  (All those unmet expectations begin to mount during this festive "holiday season"--and individuals and families implode.)  Shocked

4-  You see the strangest things in deserts, Magi included. Cool

i love checking out message boards.
the one over at the record has never gotten up and running...i swear one of the last posts over there was your humble servant, trolling around for new members for bum rejects.

but the comments in the news section are amazing things, all pent up hostility, raging hormones (male and female) and lines drawn in the cybersand.

i have a couple of favorite posters over there...one of them holds court and says things like "you say that you've lost freedom under the obama administration...please detail what freedoms you've lost (and be specific) and what you intend to do about it."

i learned years ago that any response to a question like that is usually a lost cause...bier uses that tactic on occasion...but after years of crossing swords with him on line, i've realized that he's not trying to score points...he really wants to know.

when i've been boxed into a corner with that line of questioning...i'll resort to a quote of some sort...ya know, something like "freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose"...just to muddy up the waters...sometimes it works, if not a good old fashioned "piss off" usually turns the trick.

there's another poster over there...and she's either quit in a huff or been thrown off (in one persona or another) every message board in town.

i like reading her stuff because she'll bait just about anyone and when they respond in kind, she'll make a snotty remark and imply that she was being civil and she can't figure out where the rancor came from.

and needless to say, the 2 posters i've mentioned (but haven't named) are frequently at odds.

as i said...i've watched more than a few message boards...and that one's fixing to blow.

you can't make this stuff up.

i swear, if i ever write a book...it's going to be about message boards and the thousands of small anonymice that scurry around, proffering their opinions and getting their lil noses out of joint when people point out (gently or otherwise) that they're full of shit.

and (present company excepted) this town's full of them.

just a note to thank all of our posters.
for not being full of shit.
and for graciously not pointing out those rare occasions when i am.

I'm a fan of the Record's article-driven comments section also - which format has pretty much replaced the previous iterations of "electronic bulletin boards" and then "discussion forums," such as bumrejects. ?

The Record's regulars are quite an interesting group, reflecting the eclectic nature of the county/city residents.

In my other than St. Augustine news scanning by topic via Google News I purposely randomly select different publications in order to read the comments sections from different readerships. ?

Plus with the Record's software I have the frosting on the cake as I/WebTv can voyeuristically read the "unregistered" edited/deleted comments; and indulge in a bit of glee as I sense the frustration of the posters who have been deprived of their opportunity for followup snotty comments. ?Karma.

i can see why paradise is confused.

"me" is a progressive and you're a conservative.

"me" is a master of the "please explain what freedoms you have lost under the obama administration and be specific" line of questioning and you...aren't.

"me" posts on the record board and you don't.

"me" edits posts before he/she hits submit.

on the other hand paradise also thinks that i may be "me".

"me' has a grasp of the issues that he/she comments upon.
i shoot from the lip.

i always post in lower case.
"me" uses correct punctuation.

"me" is pretty good at online debate.
i suck cheese.

i'm not sure what "me's" opinion of the dutch is but i'd bet a serious amount of money that it's a little more generous than mine.

so needless to say, i can see why paradise thinks that you or us or them or i... is "me".

While searching staugustine.com to see how well they (whoever 'they' are) had scrubbed Azid's presence I did discover that
"Unpublished
By TheOldManandtheSea | 11/05/11 - 12:31 pm"
is still around - even though you non-WebTv users probably can't see Unpublished posts.

The Azid scrubbers did a good job - even eliminating the posts from the total comments count datum on the staugustine.com site (Unpublished posts are counted btw).

Even more interesting is that Googles' caches were also scrubbed of the texts of Azid's posts which were originally captured.

BUT someone forgot the headers which appear on another page, e.g.:
- Palm Coast man urinates in bank tube
In my country, a man like this would be beaten. Is this done by people with the drug and the beer? I do not understand how people can do.... By Azid | 11/04/11

- St. Augustine Beach man charged with DUI manslaughter in deaths...
What happened to the head of this man? I see this in American movie, and I thought it was joke. Does the head.... By Azid | 11/04/11

[and in different threads where (s)he commented]:

- Latest by Azid 1 hour 3 min ago.
- Latest by Azid 41 min 16 sec ago.
- Latest by Azid 4 hour 41 min ago.

All things considered, I grade the scrubbers a B for getting to the Google caches woulda been an A if they had eliminated the header references. Neophytes!

PS: I think Azid's post following the article of the returning National Guardsmen led to the scrubbing.

[Add to the conspiracy theories that the association of a Muslim name with military movements on the internet automatically alerts an Echelon-type harvester.]

azid's already been given the gong but i'm betting that his website won't be there very long.

Pretty amazing job on the website - some time and effort expended - and I love the Q&A with Azid!

I've only found one teeny tiny error in analyzing spelling, grammar and construction; two consecutive words without an intervening space, e.g. "beerand" instead of "beer and."

puc reducks wrote:

It starts at scrutney's Nov. 5th post on p.3 of this thread. Some of the early linked Azid comments were deleted at StAugustine.com, and I've provided some of them later.

We're absolutely more alike than different - which is why I get all knee-jerky when generic hate speech anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, anti-"stan", anti-Persian, anti-Horn of African comments are posted.

Wandering around Morocco, Tunisia, Gibralter, Libya, Turkey, Lebanon, Cyprus and Pakistan in the '50s and '60s while interacting with "the natives" forced me into shedding most of my previous generic prejudices toward peoples of different shades, beliefs and actions.

And the secrets of the kasbah, and the mysteries behind the veils of the Muslim and shawls of the Berber beauties were challenges indeed!

Youbetcha there are hijinks during prayer and in "holy" places - regardless of the religion involved. I've observed or been a part of a number of them in Jewish, Christian and Muslim settings.

I sometimes think my panentheistic posture comes from not having been struck dead after some of the hijinks - proof indeed that no personal God exists.

EDIT: Don't know if it means anything but the flag in the background of Azid's photo at http://staugustinerecordalternati...ntent/uploads/2011/11/Azid-73.jpg is the national flag of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) - with the historic pan-Arab colors of black, white, green and red under which they fought for their freedom from the Ottomans.
puc reducks

Thank you, Bieramar.  I meant to edit the "I think" by either deleting or saying "I believe."  That we are more alike than different is something I have known for quite a long, long time.  It is reinforced in so many ways!

The "prayer hijinx" I laughed at so heartily was the one where one fellow was hit on his up-ended posterior by one of three others, behind him. He then picked up the "paddle" and placed a good whack on each of the three behinds!  I howled!  Whack first, ask questions later!  What I really want to know is this:  Just how much farting goes on in mosques or at prayer-time?  Care to enlighten me?   Very Happy

[You might recall from posts that I've had my fun w/religion (Catholic) at the expense of the Sacraments, nuns, priests, fellow penitents, and so on.  The fun just never stopped.  Well, actually, it did when I quit the Church right after Confirmation at 12.  Then again, I'm sure this isn't the stuff others keep in their minds.]

I wonder, based on the flag colors, just how current all Azid's YouTube videos are?

Did he just appear on "Comments" at the SAR and cause trouble?  That's kinda what I wanted to know.  Guess there were beau coup de complaints and he got tossed?  Please explain what the fascination is with me and me 2 ?  I think me is Mike.  Does anyone post on Historic City News?

O, so many questions, so little time!

thing is, puc...as far as i can tell, he didn't say anything that rated banning...however he was banned so quickly and so thoroughly that who really knows?

as for the "fascination" with "me"?...i'm not particularly fascinated with him/her...i do know this:

me is a liberal/progressive.
me doesn't suffer what me perceives to be fools, lightly.

me's main form of debate/attack is the old "you say you've lost freedom under the obama administration. please detail the freedoms that you've lost and be specific" shuck and jive.

when i was a wet behind the ears neophyte, posting on the record, andrew used to drag me into many an ill-fated argument with that tactic and your humble servant ended up getting his ass handed to him.

i learned that a quick "your mother must have been disappointed, not having any children that lived" usually worked better than detailing a long train of abuses.

as for me2...he/she is a troll.
his soul purpose in cyberspace is to make "me " look like an idiot.

it amazes me that me2 is allowed to continue to post, while azid was handed his hat, and given a stout, size 10 brogan to the butt.

but...no one ever said the the st augustine record message board applied the rules fairly.

edited to add:

looks like i spoke to soon.
me2 is gone too...with nary a trace.

this is the part where some poster asks me why i care, and to use a modicum of specificity.

edited a second time to increase the font size...for a friend.

When will congress repeal the Cuban Adjustment Act? Citizens of no other country in the world, no matter how bad their government or dictator is, get the special treatment of automatic residency like the Cubans do. When caught wet-foot, over 95% of smuggled Cubans are returned because they cannot prove a credible fear of persecution; those who do arrive here are able to return to the island without any danger of being jailed upon their arrival. They are economic immigrants, just like any other, and should be treated as such.
I wonder how the Cuban-American tune on illegal immigration will change once they are included with the huddling masses?

Once upon a time in a monastery far, far away we monks not only did not speak ("vow" of silence) but also practiced a very austere diet, i.e., no meat, no fish, no eggs, and eating the fresh "crop of the day" of the vegies and fruits in season.

Potatoes, onions and asparagus for six days in a row resulted in a cacophony of fluting farts echoing through our adjoining cells each night, after the first couple of days of that diet.  I took glee in disking the asparagus bed once a  week as that meant a day's relief from that greenest of greens.

As to the "paddling" I'll just mention that we silent monks did still "take the discipline" each Friday!

Scrutney,
Many thanks for the LARGE explanation (I didn't have to use my magnifying glass!!!).  So, am I to conclude that Messe Jorton is back at The Record???   Shocked

Why, suddenly, is there a purge/pogrom going on?

me is almost insufferable, but seems to know her (?) stuff. Far more so internationally and nationally than locally.  Of course, that could be a ruse.

Not that Azid falls into this category, but the last time "we" had such a purging was pre-election for the city.  Three commissioners are up for a vote next year.  That's likely a very narrow view, but not else makes sense...

1- Suddenly the moderator at the SAR starts reading the posts?

2- The infighting reaches unignorable proportions and everyone is "reporting"?

3- Not too long ago, your fave Dutch lady wrote in "Comments" that "they" were going to close it down.  Maybe they want enough people to grouse & moan and quit so they won't have to?

That's the problem with WackyLand:  Ya go and try to make sense out of what's happening... and it's like the Kool-Aid just slips through your fingers!  No one there ever thinks of using a glass.

Bieramar,
Alone in one's cell after a day of veggies...  "fruits that toot," as someone I once knew used to say!  Was breaking wind also breaking silence???

What??!  You'd get paddled, too?

Which reminds me:  Now that you've been in NM for a while, you must have heard (or seen/visited) los penitentes in Truchas and close-by mountainous vilages.  I went to undergrad school (UofAZ) with a young woman who was born and reared in Truchas.  She invited me up there on several occasions (esp. Easter) to meet her extended family.  The penitente blood runs long and wide in her family.  It was the most amazing thing:  ethnocentrically, what I'd call self-mutilation, but physical statements of belief that supposedly go back to prehistory (in that prehistoric religious beliefs were mixed with protohistoric and the historic [Spanish Christian] beliefs/ceremonies).

Anyhow, she was, as was I, a student of anthropology, which is why I got the invite.  Her parents thought she was studying nursing, so I had to lie too.  The ruggedness of the terrain worked very well to cloister small villages and their "anti-Christian" doings for centuries. It's not what I would call "dark," but "severe."  If you haven't checked it out, it might be interesting to you.  My visits were back in 1977-78, when outsiders were not welcome.  Period.  If you were found wandering on a road, you were escorted away from the place.  Her mother and father okayed my visits, thinking I was a nice Catholic girl in nursing school.

NM is a very eerie place, all told.  And yes, I have seen the "man who runs with coyote's face" on the Navajo Res.  How I miss it all.

Forgive typos. Am deep in a reverie here.

How do you think one gets "favored poster" status over there?  It long has been my belief (going back to TOTT) that those who posted anonymously were known not only to Record moderators, but generally to Record staff, and all "officials" who complained and inquired.  Same for "Comments."

You nailed it, Scrut:  "no traces."  Therein is The Truth, The Raison d'Etre, yada yada yada.

Don't feel quilty about the Dutch girl for a minnit!  She wanted to stir up things here--and goodness knows--we don't need that.  Not when we've got Tsiya and the occasion drive-by by Mike.

Interesting to see who and what else is "disappeared" over there.

Randy Covingtons Ranting Betrays His Angry Agenda

By EdSlavin | 11/21/11 - 12:34 pm

Republicans ended slavery. Republicans helped enact Civil Rights Laws. Republicans helped us defeat Fascism and Communism.
Those were Liberal Republicans, people who valued humanity.

What happened to them?

Theyve been pushed out of their party. By whom? By outrageous sheeple (sheep-people, a/k/a the People of the Lie), fueled by Karl Rove , Ann Coulter and the Koch Brothers (owners of Georgia-Pacific, which wants to pollute our St. Johns River with a pipeline designed for that purpose).
GOP no longer stands for Grand Ole Party. It stands for Grouches, Oafs & Pitiful!

Todays GOP practices smear and fear it lacks ideas, so it emits emotions.

Oceans of emotions. Emotions emitted at the behest of Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers.

These other-directed Tea Party political animals are unhappy. Unctuous. Uncouth. Hence, they demean every government agency they ever encounter (except the St. Johns County School Board). These Teabaggers turn every disagreement about policy into something unpleasant, something nasty, threatening fisticuffs and making gun noises and gestures at our County Commissioners. They call themselves the Tea Party.

Here in St. Johns County, there are two different feuding groups of these Tea Parties, each one of them massively misinterpreting the Constitution, misappropriating Revolutionary War drag and flags. These Teabaggers dont know anything about history.

They dont know beans about the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments. They are imbued with self-righteousness they know not that they know not that they know not!

Case in Point: Your Republican State Committeeman, Randy Covington. Who is Randy Covington? Mysterious international businessman? Humorless hack and sadsack. Corporativist anti-park schoolyard bully, who actually called our St. Johns River private property? Insecure, unelected leader of one of two local Tea Party factions (which he took over after filing for a corporate charter and seizing power in a Beer Hall Putsch on August 22, 2011. ). Who got the $6000 treasury? Has there been an accounting?

As reported in the St. Augustine Record (August 22, 2011): Board secretary Esther Miller said Tea Party Chairman Eric West and board member Randy Covington met Saturday without informing the party membership, then informed her she was no longer secretary. They want some of us to form another Tea Party, Miller said. "They're shutting us up. I won my seat in a contested race. I'm not leaving. Board treasurer Lance Thate was also dumped Saturday. I had no idea (that would happen), Thate said. "There was no discussion, no notice, anything. We had been in touch with the Republican Executive Committee hoping to rein in (West and Covington). When they called me to 'discuss the future of the Tea Party,' I called Esther Miller to go with me. Thate is often seen demonstrating in a tricorn hat and holding the yellow Don't Tread on Me flag. He and Miller believe West and Covington have a continuing conflict of interest by being on the boards of both the Tea Party and the REC. Thate said, The Tea Party didn't come into existence to be a branch of the REC. If the Republicans had been doing their job, the Tea Party wouldn't have been necessary."

Covington told the Record: The Tea Party is the only organization with the energy and focus to affect change in our political institutions."
At the Beer Hall Putsch style meeting, Covington and his allies took over the group, stating there were no rules.

Covington does not even believe in the laws of physics, or in having experts write school books. Earlier this year, at a meeting of the St. Johns County Legislative Delegation, Randy Covington actually told our state legislators that he is against experts writing school curricula he wants parents to do it. Personally, I would prefer that mathematicians write our math books, wouldnt you? Future nuclear engineers, scientists and airline pilots and those who rely on their work --- will thank you!

Covington and his ill-mannered, ill-breed, uninformed crowd of crackpots opposed the St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore. Cutting off their noses to spite their face, they laughed at the prospect of good green jobs at good wages. Instead, they prefer prattling sloganeering about socialism. Picture Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn, except theyre not erudite and lie even more!

Now crotchety old Randy Covington shows his recklessness by attacking Rev. Ron Rawls, Judith Seraphin, and little ole me. Randy Covington accuses Rev. Rawls of living in Gainesville (true) and Judith Seraphin and me of intimidating our School Board by asking the Justice Department to investigate em. When a bully-boy given to Brown Shirt tactics calls you a bully, I reckon that makes you an anti-bully!

Revealingly, rancid Randy Covington calls African-Americans a special interest group. Wrong, they are a protected class under our Constitution and Bill of Rights, which Covington purports to venerate.

While Covington hates government any government he has a strange romance with the St. Johns County School Board. He writes, The School Board voted their principles, they should not be pressured to abandon that for the mistakes of the commission.

Evidently, along among all of the governments on the face of this Earth, our St. Johns County School Board is beloved of Mr. Covingtons other-directed faction of our Tea Party. Why? Perhaps because our School Board dragged its heels on desegregation compliance. Or perhaps because it violated constitutional rights, recently held in violation (again) by a federal court for attempting to inflict religious songs on fourth grade graduation!

Evidently, GOP bully Randy Covingtons soulmates on the St. Johns County School Board share Covingtons animus toward our constitution and those who believe in it, including the ACLU and NAACP.
Hyperventilating, Randy Covington goes off for more than 1200 words on his blog. Cliches by the Carload. Mixed metaphors. Fox-News-like material misstatements of fact. Limbaugh-like appeals to unwashed lemmings to follow his prejudices.

Covington is enough to give shallowness a bad name. Hes out of his depth.

Read Covingtons disgustingly revealing diatribe, Judith Seraphin Sees Racists Everywhere for real and demonstrative evidence of just how loooow the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) and its revolting Tea Party ratmasters can go. Looooooooooower than whale droppings at the bottom of the Marianas Trench, the deepest part of the worlds oceans (6.8 miles deep)!

Thanks for your patience, Scrut.

Do you--or anyone--know what the scoop is on libel on the internet? Does it have to meet the same what's its as print libel (Sullivan vs. The New York Times)?
bieramar

Libel laws on the internet are in constant flux, as local jurisdictions in the U.S. and around the globe pass laws, and they are appealed upward through the various local, state and federal courts.

In the U.S. the laws vary from state to state - in reference to the residence of the website "owner" and residence of the site "user."

It seems that this bumrejects site was created because of litigation, and the resulatant appearance and disappearance of plazabum.com

The latest innovation is to convict for libel even if NO actual damages have been established!

Thanks for the info, Bieramar.

No damages?!  I wonder how accusations of libel can be actionable.  Must not there be a punishment for the crime, if it's to be adjudicated? Even parole?

Just speculating.

State-by-state standards?  I don't agree.
jasmine

Attached is some general information on Florida's Defamation Laws, and they seem fairly vague, but I did note that one could be potentially libel for defmatory remarks, even if you were quoting a third person's remarks, and they were untrue, and also damaged the individual being defamed.

http://www.citmedialaw.org/legal-guide/florida-defamation-law

The last paragraph of this information stated the following:

"The CMLP could not locate any cases in Florida that apply the single publication rule in the context of a statement published on the Internet. If you are aware of any Florida cases that acknowledge the single publication rule in the Internet context, please notify us."

[Subliminal sidebar re "Some day he'll come along..." - last post in the Errol Jones comments at the first link above.

In the early years of WWII as my mom, sis and I made our annual move to yet another, and cheaper, rental apartment - as we were wont to do after my dad had deserted us to 'patriotically' enlist in the Navy (he was a WWI Navy veteran also) -  we discovered an old upright piano with about 50 ivories striking off key and a piano bench filled with pre-war sheet music. My sis taught me how to read music and I spent hours alone, playing (right hand only) and singing with pre-puberty innocence of the meanings of the lyrics. Later as I sprouted into adolescence I would change the gender throughout.

Anyway, now that I read that damn post this a.m., Gershwin keeps repeating in my mind "someday she'll come along, that gal of mine...."]

Back to your linked articles, I note the first couple of posts on the Jones inappropriate touching article were removed within the first few hours, but after they were flagged by readers as inappropriate posting. But there are still plenty of other wacky ones left.

I read them both, and wondered at the time how long tm11999's would last - it was particularly vile in an attempted "negro" dialect, reminding me of the worst of the racist bigoted filth of the '50s and '60s.  Lonnya's didn't seem offensive to me, but The_Fuzz at 03:51 am flagged it as offensive also, so I infer that for "consistency" the Record's censor deleted them both.

The Google bot didn't crawl soon enough to capture them in a cache so I can't re-publish them here.

I complained about objectionable or inflammatory language several times, Nothing came of it. I tried to combat it on a tit for tat basis, got a nasty warning from Pete Elliot. It obviously depends more on who says something than what is said. I really can't see why someone can call me a teabagger but I can't call them a c---k s-----r. Neither is a term I'd use normally but liberals keep telling me how important "fairness" is, and I'd like some of that fairness directed my way for a change.

who knows tsiya?
my gut hunch is that 'teabagger' only offends the teaparty folks while c**k s****r offends the tender sensibilities of just about everyone...i get your point and i'm sure they get your point too.

i guess in the market place of ideas that is the st. augustine record, it boils down to what you can get away with.

i thought i'd reprint this sensitive caring post by tm11999, from the wackyland gazette:

of course ........

"I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the Black community to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature make them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people.

Real estate values are fueled by the mix of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their hard work and can-do nature. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation."WalkingOnTheMoon

(scrut) i wonder what the mangement is gonna do with this?

my guess is that it will be gone before the witching hour.

edited to add:
i did a little research (and i hate research) and i found that tm cribbed the post from another site. it's hard to believe some of the crap i read over there.

Unfortunately it's not hard to believe by me - and it was those ignorant bigoted beliefs and hateful filth that was so sad for beegee, bigmac, barkybite and skookum as they realized their deaths were near - and that the stupidity and evil which they had sacrificed and worked so hard to combat through their lives continued unabated generation after generation in America and around the world.

The same crap - the same fear - the same hatred - indoctrinating children, spewing out and blaming others - even to the point of attacking and killing them, and urging others to do so.

Catholics, Jews, Negros, Communists, Marxists, Socialists, Mexicans, Japanese - any person of color - and more recently Muslims, Chinese, North Koreans, and on and on and on.

Assign a tag, dehumanize all individuala, generalize, blame, condemn, torture, kill - and justify all in one way or another.

The left certainly has these arts honed to a fine edge!

Every goal, every solution suggested by the left has much more tyranny as a vital component than I'm willing to tolerate. You don't seem to want discussion on this subject.

I don't avoid discussion - when I have a clue about what the "subject" is.

Any rational discussion must begin with a statement of the subject, and mutually understood meanings of the beginning premises. Both sides don't accept the premises as true - that's what the ensuing discussion is about - but each must understand how the other uses the words.

There's nothing wrong at all on electronic forums with simply making statements, or accusations, or attacking others' and their opinions, or disagreeing with another's statements, opinions and so on - or flaming, trolling etcetera, etcetera.

But none of those are discussions.

If you want to discuss a goal or a solution to whatever specific subject you choose, all you have to do is present the subject, and the goals and proposed solutions in understandable words with common meanings. Then there can be a rational discussion, and I will most probably enter into the discussion as I have for more than a decade in these forums.

That you - or anyone else - believes that all members of any aggregate group - Tea Partiers, the left, marxists, illegal aliens, blacks, whites, yellows, heterosexuals, homosexuals, Christians, Catholics, Baptists, Islamist Muslims, secular Muslims, secular Jews, Ultra Orthodox Jews, etcetera, etcetera - think and/or act alike is simply a matter of belief -- totally unsupported by any rational reality.

I have no interest in discussing irrational beliefs.

a quick one off comment that has nothing to do with wackyland...but i ran across an old tott'er...rayboyusmc on the washington post commentary section, shooting his mouth off about william peter blatty suing georgetown university...rayboy with his typical wit an candor said:

I'm not convinced that rayboyusmc44 (active on the Washington Post site for the last couple of years, allegedly posting from the upper midwest) and rayboyusmc (active in several central Florida sites) are the same person -- even though their politics are similar.

you mean there's 2 of them?

but you could be right.
rayboy had all the classic symptoms of bush derangement syndrome.

if memory serves, he and skook used to kick around all of those international cartel of jewish bankers/ protocols of the elder of zion/prescott bush/black copter conspiracy theories and it seems to me that you(bier) used to jump in on occasion to bring them back to earth with an inconvenient factoid or two.

damn i wish i had saved some of those posts.

as i remember rayboy used to refer to dubya as an 'asphole' to get his posts by tott's robo-censor.
unless there's a bush story in one of those papers...we may never know.

i think my last encounter with bilko was when he said something like, the supremes made a big hit with the republicans when they "selected" bush in florida 2000 and i corrected him and said that the last hit the supremes had was "someday, we'll be together" in 1970.

i think that he called me an asphole and quit responding to my posts.

damn...i miss the old talk of the town.

Now through the good graces and hard work of Plazabum we have another chance at it. What it is I havent the foggiest notion but here we go again with the seemingly inbred nastiness of some of the posters. How long do you suppose that this will go on before the plug is pulled on yet another playground. Hasnt anybody learned anything from two bad experiences??
Mostly I am a lurker without a lot to contribute but one of the biggest pleasures that I have in my now restricted life is this site and the ego warfare that erupts contributes even less than I do.

Keep Your Fork.

There was a woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal Illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things "in order", she contacted her pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes. She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in. The woman also requested to be buried with her favorite Bible. Everything was in order and the pastor was preparing to leave when the woman suddenly remembered something very important to her. "There's one more thing," she said excitedly. "What's that?" came the pastor's reply. "This is very important," the woman continued. "I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand."

The pastor stood looking at the woman, not knowing quite what to say. "That surprises you, doesn't it?" the woman asked. "Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request," said the pastor. The woman explained. "In all my years of attending church socials and potluck dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork'. It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming...like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance! So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder 'What's with the fork?'. Then I want you to tell them: "Keep your fork....the best is yet to come". The pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the woman goodbye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She KNEW that something better was coming.

At the funeral people were walking by the woman's casket and they saw the pretty dress she was wearing and her favorite Bible and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the pastor heard the question "What's with the fork?" And over and over he smiled. During his message, the pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. The pastor told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either. He was right. So the next time you reach down for your fork, let it remind you oh so gently, that the best is yet to come.

On a purely personal note: Pastors, we often become overwhelmed with the present, but always remember - The Best is Yet to Come!

and in a related story, our good friend ed slavin has apparently been given the heave ho from america's favorite message board/news commentary section/on-line soap opera.

no word yet from the powers that be over at the record, as to the reason(s) for the implementation of the dreaded hook but if i might offer an opinion; ed (or someone posting as ed) accused errol (erroneous) jones of being a "tortfeasor".

it was either that or the fact that anyone who disagreed with ed on the galimore pool affair, was promptly accused of being a racist, homophobe, misogynist, bigot...however mr. slavin did say he would pray for them.

all of mr. slavin's posts have, in all likelihood, vanished with him.

i know i speak on behalf of staff and management (and bier) of bum rejects when i offer the lachrymose mr. slavin a permanent cyber-soapbox right here.

so...let's see.

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, another example of "Civility" appears in Wackyland.

From yesterday's St. Augustine Record; an after-comment on the news article about the proliferation of the illegal CNS drugs in the "Bath Salts" category:

hey, we're all veterans of the bum bench site, where that kind of crap was an everyday occurrence.

i'll never forget you (bier) taking on management @ plazabum for using, if memory serves, the exact same epithet. and as i remember, they used it improperly, using it in reference to an arab.

the proper term when addressing that ethnic group would be towel head.(if of course, you want your ass kicked) rag head usually refers to male residents of the sub-continent.(same warning applies)

as head gear for both groups is an affectation, the above mentioned terms don't bother me a whole lot. although i don't use either phrase and wouldn't let someone use them at my dinner table, i have recently used the term "hanky head" (or something very much like it) but i draw the line at "snot noggin".

one must have some standards.

several years ago you (bier) used "paki" when referring to a pakistani and i mentioned that the term was considered a pejorative, which, quite frankly mystified me as it is an abbreviation of their country of origin.

but then i considered the term "jap" (which is nothing but a shortening of their country of origin) which was in wide release during the war years, but fell promptly fell out of favor, soon after our victory....it doesn't carry quite the verbal punch of slope, slant eye or zipperhead.

i'm certainly glad we don't use those terms around here.

it's interesting to note that on one of my beatles bootlegs, there is an alternate take of the song "get back" where paul starts the song out with a sprightly; "don't need no pakistanis taking all the people's jobs" and then replaces the words "get back" with "geh raus nach irgendeinem haus."(get out of my house?)

all you need is love?
you betcha.

handy32086 ought to be sleeping with the fishes by now...the record doesn't put up with that kind of nonsense, not for long anyway, although they have let one racist jerk re-register under what is his (at last count) ninth nom de plume.

Coincidently (as if coincidences actually occur) as you, scrutney, typed the last post, I was sitting in a conversation circle on the patio of the Lazy Lizard Lounge in Sandia Park/San Antonito NM alternating free speech with micro brew gulping.

A handful of the group had lived in (or visited) Germany, and a few had in Israel - and the anecdotes were flowing faster than the IPAs.

One of the ladies used the term "Hebes" ("Heebs", i.e. short for "Hebrew"), with some of the participants raising an eyebrow or two, as they considered "Hebe" to be derogatory. Which led to a discussion of terms which evolve/devolve from derogatory to common usage and vice-versa.

When the lady had lived in Israel "Hebe" was simply a descriptive term, at that time used to identify and distinguish a non-American-born Jew from an American-born, and was not derogatory.

Like in my situation in the 50s and 60s when "Paki" was a non-derogatory distinction - or today here in New Mexico when "Anglo" is used to distinguish from Latino, Spanish, Mestizo, Mexican and Pueblo Indian; all used with the understanding that the description refers to current and ancestral cultural differences.
