WASHINGTON STREET LION

One of a pair at the extreme south end of Washington street. I was on a test run of a 30 year old Pentax slr I just restored. I enjoy my digital cameras but the old ones are works of art and precision.

Say, "Hallelujah, The Gray Scale!"

An amazine photo.  The detail captured by the SLR and human eye is so precise--and in a way HD and 3D cannot match.

BRAVO to the Master!!!

I found an old Pentax ME super SE at thrift store and cleaned it up. As I said it is a beautiful piece of work on it's own merits. All my digital cameras will be garbage in a few years but the old Pentax may just be running right along 30 years from now..

Agreed!  All the technology changes so rapidly for electronics.  Then there is migrating--the cost, the time, the expertise.  Some things are just better as they were, before chips got involved!

Pretty fine lookin' camera there, Bob.  Did you take a gamble that you could fix it, or did you know it could be done (by you)?

Your photo got me thinking about how many lions there are around town.

Wouldn't that make a great photo study???

I can usually tell if there are any major problems. The most common issue is that someone stored the camera with a battery installed and the battery leaked, or stored it in a hot attic and all the foam light seals crumbled and jammed up the works.
Lenses can get a fungus infestation if stored in dark and damp, it grows on the lens coatings and secretes an acid which will etch the glass over time. Sometimes they can be polished but it ruins the lens coating and the images made through  lens will lack contrast. If too hot the lube will migrate to the aperture blades and lock them up.
Hell, anything I can find to do other than watch TV is fine with me! Very Happy

I'm ready for cool weather so I can get on the scooter and cruise downtown, I've got a lot of potential models in mind. I can't handle the heat at all now. I lived most of my life without AC but sure can't do it now.
puc reducks

Yeah, so many things can affect those moving parts (just like humans).  Very interesting about those secreting fungi.  HOT is not good for much, esp. humid hot.

It has been a tough summer.  I am ready for autumn to settle in.  Will settle for mid-80s and low humidity.

Downtown will be as splendid a resource for your unique eye as have been Guana and the various bird hang-outs.

Tell us the REAL stories!
tsiya

My mobility scooter won't handle the trails at Guana, I tried it and got stuck. They won't let me drive there. I know a lot of places where I could just park and wait but no way to get there. It's the same with the beaches, I'm locked out.

Ever thought of human models?  Feminine, young, scantily clad?
tsiya

I carry a curse, any time I try to shoot humans they have a mad urge to pick their nose or scratch their balls just as the shutter fires.
Birds and critters are much more reasonable! Shocked

But But But what happened to growing old and being a dirty old man?
tsiya

I've outgrown that stage, last girlfriend damned near bankrupted me. Very Happy

I could have had a stable of thoroughbred racehorses for less than that woman spent! Very Happy
