Damn carpetbagger!

But more seriously every time I read West's comments I'm reminded of Goldwater, and also the stereotypical bitter Vietnam vet's "We would have won the war if the politicians wouldn't have interfered," with echoes of LeMay's "bomb them back into the Stone Age."

I think I understand the politics of some Tea Partiers (the social conservative and military "hawk" wings which I do NOT support), and the 527 "Draft Allen West for President" effort, as his visibility and supporters can be a door opener in the Republican power struggles between now and the 2012 Convention.

I find his views anathema to much of what this nation stands for - especially the unalienable rights of ALL persons - and his conduct epitomizes the continuing growth in power of the military-industrial complex, which is more of a threat to our constitutional republic than al Qaeda ever dreamed of being.

And even many Tea Partiers (the constitutional, deficit-cutting small government wings, which I DO support) look askance at his being cashiered out of the Army on an Article 15 in lieu of a Court Martial (paid a $5,000 fine but was allowed to keep his pension), and his defense of soldiers who've been courtsmartialed for abuse of prisoners.  That a disgraced Lieutenant Colonel commissioned Army officer is referred to by many of his followers as "Colonel" adds insult to injury.

Plus his subsequent tour in Afghanistan as a double-dipping civilian contractor (for MPRI, subsidiary of L-3; Lehman brothers, LaPenta and Lazt) advising the Afghan Army. Cashiered out of the U.S. Army for prisoner abuse, then hired back at taxpayers' expense to teach the Afghans? (L-3 is currently under a 3 year suspension from federal contracts, after paying a $330,000 fine for surveilling and copying Dept. of Defense e-mails).

As we both know and Article 15 is for none serious charges.  Been there done that.  All Article 15 are in lieu of a Court martial whether spitting on the grass, failure to salute, possession.....  I am not overly excited by his crime which was threatening to shoot a suspected sympathizer/enemy and then firing his side arm next to him.  The question is did he get the information he was looking for?

Do you actually believe West is electable?

Break eggs all you want but before this can happen you have to have both a candidate that can win and be willing to break eggs.

Being a US Marine hardly qualifies him for the job.  He talks a good game but I plan to reserve judgement.

A jar head in the White House?
