Actually I asked her directly if the Real names conversion would be retroactive when it took place and she plainly and directly said no it would not be.

So I am back to my two choices......

I meant, would the real name policy be retroactive to all existing posts on their web site. Which it turned out being, despite what Ms Fogel told me in her email.

No, opinionpub.com is still there.  Been busy lately, need to add some more current topics.

I think doing it retroactively was wrong. Going forward for new posts, no harm no foul, but retroactively without consent or notification,..... completely wrong and unethical

Oh I'm not pissed. That was a minor rant.  My avatar just looks pissed.

It is one of my pet concerns. Billion dollar interests can donate millions in anonymous funds to PACs, but newspapers demand reader's personal information be released to post a comment on their site? Do it retroactively without warning? No even complains?  Should we all sing now "ahhhh,,ahhh comfortably numb"

I mean if we are are going to shaft the middle class and people who actually work a living, at least let them complain about anonymously.

Seaworld and Disney collecting biometric data and storing it?  Facebook et al gathering data for the sale to the highest bidder.

Hmmmm....... Chancellor Sutler would be enthused.

The same person over at the Wreckord who was "rara go team" lets use "real names" won't it be great.

Is now singing the tragedy of their loss of anonymity.  My chuckle for today.  Razz

Their "real name" policy seems to have certainly worked.  A virtual banquet of lively and interesting discussions on popular topics of the day. Reminds me of well,............Bodie, California!

Yep, a prime example of how to wreck a struggling local newspaper in three easy steps.

First put an accountant in charge.........

there's a reason that this thread doesn't make any god damn sense and reads like a trip through the watergate white house tape transcripts.

here's the reader's digest version.
a poster (and one who should know better, as he's run his own message board...one that really had only one rule...no outing of another poster), has outed another poster on this humble board.

now the victim of the outing wants all of their posts removed.
i'm cool with that...it might take a while but i will comply.

outing another poster (exposing their identity) is a no no.

it goes hand in hand with the one rule of this board...that we ask you to behave in a relatively civil manner.

exposing a poster who wishes to remain anonymous is at best, a breach of on line etiquette and at worst (in the less than perfect world we live in) a dangerous thing to do.

it is in short, bullshit.

i can't in good conscience ban someone for breaking a rule that no one knew existed (even though it doesn't take a genius to figure out that that behavior falls very short of on line civility)...ex post facto prosecution ain't my style.

the last thing in the world that i want is to be a heavy handed moderator, but i will cheerfully belly up to the bar, break out the pipe wrench and start swinging if this kind of shit happens again.

nuff said.

If you are say I "outed" anyone, go back and re-read what I posted.

I posted a question -- addressed to a person who is posting on The Record under their real name.

I asked the question and a poster on this forum, using an assumed name, picked up my question and decided to answer it under her fake username.

Apparently her stripes haven't changed much over the past 10 years or so.  I have never used any derogatory language on this forum, nor have I lurked here to cause anyone any trouble.  But then, I also sign my real life name to my comments.

This is not the first time she has packed up her paper dollies and deleted all of her posts.  Just because she's done it under more usernames than the one who can not be named, is no surprise to me.  Does it really surprise you?

In the future I'm thinking of becoming Rip Flatus -- especially in light of the fact that everyone else on this forum, at one time or another, has been mike.  OOPS! I "outed" myself.

i ditched your post, mike...i can't re-read it.
and as per the poster's request...all of their comments have been removed as well.
if there's one thing i hate worse than on line research...it's pruning. (as my yard and my neighbors will attest.)

it's over.
let's move on.

I just gotta chuckle every time you post "I post under my real name."  It's just funny, that's all - no offense intended - and reminds me that I had to explain to FSUWriter once upon a time.

They even have hall monitors now.

"Yet Another Anonymous Poster

Nothing against you, St Aug Gal, but I am wondering why you are allowed to be anonymous whereas the rest of us are not.

Mods? Can we fix this one, too, so that the new policy applies equally to all? "

Yet another chuckle for the day,.........

Oh the irony........
